Tyre choices for my KLR650
Well i have put on about 5000 m on my stock 50/50 tires and tread is wearing down. I'd say that i have about 30% of live to be had out of the back tire. The front tyre is still in good shape.
Rather than being reactive when the rubber hits the fan, i have decided to do some homework on the subject so that I will have a clear idea of which tires to but on when the time comes so...
Front tyre still looking good |
- I need a tire that can last at least 10
- I need a tire that will be smooth on the freeway and grippy in the tight corners in town
- Off roading not a requirement as i do most of my current riding on tarmac
- I need the best value for money and I cant afford to break the bank
These are the two options that i have come up with so far.
The Kenda is a 100% road tire and the Trailwing is an 80/20 tire
The Kenda rear tire is super smooth on the freeway but the front tire is slick in the wet and tends lead to the sides. The tread wear is commendable on both and they should reach 10k easy.
The Trailwing rear can handle pretty much anything and is a good all rounder but the tread wear is a bit faster than the Kenda. The front tire is pretty much as close to an improvement on the stock as I'm gonna get and will be an excellent choice with good tread wear.
My solution would be to run the Kenda in the rear and the a Trailwing in the front.
I will post again with a review once I have the Kenda on the rear....
Just put on Shinko E804/E805's and I'm really happy with them!
